The ASME University of Toronto Student Section will be holding Officer Elections
for the 2010-2011 academic year on April 7, 2010. All ASME Student Members are
eligible to vote at this meeting, and all University of Toronto students are eligible
to run for a position.
Flow
of events:
6.00-6.15:
Speech by current student chair
6.15-6.30:
All candidates who wish to run for student chair are gathered on stage. Each
candidate
will have a short speech to justify why he/she is suitable for the
position (5 minutes
maximum for each candidate). This is followed by voting by the other
students to
elect the new student chair.
6.30-7.30:
Similarly this will be done for the other positions.
Below
are the titles and descriptions of the positions that you can sign up for. Make
the right choice!
Student
Chair (must have served as Officer of Student Section for at least one year)

Responsible
for management of the Student Section and coordinates efforts with ASME and
ASME Ontario Section.
Vice-Chair
(must have served as Officer of Student Section for at least one year)
·
Responsible
for overseeing activities and operations of Student Section, provide support to
Student Chair and assumes his/her role in their absence.
Secretary
·
Responsible
for recording and the distribution of meeting minutes.
Treasurer
·
Responsible
for overseeing financial matters of the Student Section.
Programs
Officer
·
Responsible
for University of Toronto entries to all ASME competitions, oversees the event
calendar and preparing logistical arrangements for said events.
Marketing
Officer
·
Responsible
for establishing methods of communication to the University of Toronto student
body regarding events organized or co-sponsored by Student Section. In
addition, he/she is responsible for promoting events organized by the Student
Section. Duties would include but are not limited to making class announcements,
creation and management of the posters for events, etc.
·
Responsible
for securing sponsorship of events organized by Student Section. Duties would
include but are not limited to contacting manufacturing plant managers to secure
plant tours and also to arrange financial support for the Student Section from
event sponsors.
·
Responsible
for creating and sending bi-monthly e-newsletters to members of Student Section
and newsletters to non-members.
·
Responsible
for maintaining communication between the Student Section and University of
Toronto student body. Duties would include but are not limited drafting EngSoc
emails and facebook messages to promote upcoming ASME events.
·
Responsible
for maintaining and updating the website of the Student Section
·
Responsible
for maintaining communication between the SDOB and the Student Section and must
attend meetings for both organizations. Duties would include class
announcements and also keeping the club up to date with the on-goings of their
respective classes.

Representatives
of various student groups are responsible for establishing communication
between their respective student groups and the Student Section.
This
is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership experience in a volunteer role
that will not only be fun and rewarding, but also contribute to your
professional development. Participation may also lead to further opportunities
within ASME and the Mechanical Engineering world through the numerous formal
and informal networking opportunities available through ASME.

Wednesday*. Self-nominations are acceptable. If you are unable to attend the
Elections Meeting in person, but would like to still run for a position, you
may either attend by Skype teleconference or you may submit a brief candidate
statement that will be read out loud to the voters in attendance. To attend via
Skype teleconferencing, please add gabriel.ee1 or alternatively by email

ASME and the Mechanical Engineering Club would like to
invite you to the fifth annual "Mechanical Engineering PEY Mixer" to
be held on Wednesday November 18, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM.
Don't miss out on this excellent opportunity to learn more
about the PEY program, the types of internships available to mechanical
engineers and the application process. The purpose of this event is to allow
prospective PEY students to network with alumni and former PEY students.

ASME Student Professional Development Conferences (SPDC's) introduce
students to ASME, and provide a forum to train future ASME officers and
leaders. In addition, the SPDC's are a valuable resource for enabling
technology transfer among students, and are the setting for various ASME
student competitions.
